Meam scio grammaticam imperfectam esse; si velitis, mihi valde placeat correctiones accipere.

His dictis ... Cognovistis Vicipaediam Latinamne? Omnibus Vicipaediam Anglicam &c scientibus, eam Latine scriptam, ut unus scriptorum, ostendere velim. Adhuc 50 000 fere commentationes habemus, numerusque cito augescit. Vicipaedia modus commodissimus Latine scribendi est et legendi. Ubi aliter de nostrae aetatis rebus Latine legas? Nostrae parvae Vicipaediae Latinitas quippe alternat secundum commentationem; altera bona Latinitate scripta est, alterna non. Vostrum semper est gratum auxilium. Conari debeatis! :)

What's this, a Latin community with no entries (at least no recent ones)? Unspeakable! Let's rectify that!

One of the reasons I love learning Latin is getting some wonderful phrases from the ancients. Here are a few of my favorites - post your own!

"Inpares nascimur, pares morimur." - Seneca, Letters to Lucilius 91.16

"Abeunt studia in mores" - Ovid Heroides (XV, 83

"Solamen miseris socios habuisse doloris"

"Infelix ego homo, quis me liberabit de corpore mortis huius?" Ep. S. Pauli ad Romanos 7:24

Hello everyone, my name is Mattie, -is.

Is a one-sentence post considered spam? That is the question. But I wouldn't want to post a long paragraph, which would inevitably be full of mistakes, so I guess a one-sentence post it is.

I wrote a sentence in Latin to go with a picture I took (if you want context, which'd help to the understanding of the sentence no doubt, the photo's this one). Since I've been studying Latin on my own for a while, I decided to come out of the closet, so to speak, and post it:

Sola folia mortva scivnt solitvdinem vitamqve.

It's probably all wrong wrong wrong, but now I feel as if I'm actually going somewhere with this. Which is fun. :)

Tell me what you think! Let's have Latin discussions!

*pokes community*

As far as the interest search can tell me, this is the only 'Latin' community on Dreamwidth and there's no activity? Time for some Latin love, I think!

Maybe we can start with introductions? I'm an undergrad studying Latin as part of my degree, the other part being Czech, where I focus on Linguistics - all connected to my love for (Latin) grammar. My top 3 authors would have to be Catullus, Vergil and Cicero.

How about you?

Now taking suggestions for more interests, icons, community information, etc.

Shortly: will be posting my current translation list for the mood themes. Some of them I'm not sure exactly how to do, so suggestions will be 100% welcome.
